This chapter is an introduction to the different applications of measurements, and to the main standards relevant for these different applications.

There are different kinds of application that need measurement. Basically, applications can be split between 5 categories, as described in {{FigureRef|S1}}.

This chapter is an introduction to the different applications of measurement, and to the related standards covering these applications, as described in the newly published reference document IEC TR 63213 - Power measurement applications within electrical distribution networks and electrical installations (2019).

There are different kinds of application that need measurement. Figure 1 of IEC TR 63213 splits these applications between several categories, as shown in Figure S1.
